We have also been involved with Hennepin Theater Trust's "5 to 10 on Hennepin." Amoke Kubat and Starri Hedges are artists collaborating with GAIA Democratic School and YO MAMA Institute for Mothering Mothers with  5to10onHennepin programming. Through community art, we aim to help create a safer, more mom/youth friendly downtown!

Job Title: Teacher/Teacher’s Aide                            

Job description/responsibilities: To assist in daily activities of the school including opening/closing, meal prep, administrative duties, general cleaning, organizing, and attending meetings. To support K-12 grade students in academic, social and emotional growth through advising, teaching and tutoring students in our unique democratic environment.    

Required Qualifications:                                        

-Direct experience with diverse youth and/or collective process   or democratic education

-Background check

-3 references

-One school year commitment with three month trial

-A driver’s license and teacher’s license is not required but one or both is a plus!

-A 4 year degree (BA or BS) is preferred

Qualities we are looking for in candidates: Fun, reliable, flexible, open, caring, compassionate, patient, able to “let go” of adult privilege, supportive of GDS mission and adult/youth partnerships

Pay rate: $12.00/hourly

Hours: Ideally, 4 hours per day, weekdays (M-F) x 4 weeks per month, August-June. Hours are somewhat flexible, to be scheduled between 9:00am and 5:00pm. Morning availability is desired.

Location: Minneapolis- Lowry Hill, near Walker Art Center
